What can I do to make him/her better? A. A common way to get rid of hero weakness is to get items to make them better. For example, the Undead's "Tormented Soul" has horrendous HP, making him a prime target for nuking. However, there are several items that can be bought that will raise this value, and make him more resilient. Try many item combinations to find your hero's ideal one! One main attribute that Dota prides itself on is its hero balance. There are ways to play all heroes well and counter all heroes; you just have to know how! Q: What happens after my hero dies? A: You will respawn with full health and some mana after you die. The time to respawn is 8 seconds multiplied by your character level; so 8 seconds at level 1, 80 seconds at level 10. (Do not leave because you died. It weakens your team.) You also lose gold upon death at the rate of 50 gold per character level; so 50 gold at level 1, 500 gold at level 10. If you are certain you cannot escape death, try to quickly transfer your gold to teammates using the Allies menu (F11). Later, ask them to transfer back to you. You do not lose items or experience when dying. If one player kills another player's hero, they receive a total of 141 gold, after the 100 gold bonus. Q: Can I repick my hero? A: No. If you're having trouble with your current hero, ask your team for advice on using him and after the game come here and look above for that hero’s strategy thread. Also, you can offer to switch heroes with an ally by sharing control to that ally and vice versa. 3. The DOTA Map: General Information and Downloads Q: What is the point of Defense of the Ancients? A. To take control of a single hero and destroy the opposing computer-controlled base. As you attempt to destroy the enemy base, other player-controlled heroes from the other team will often try to kill you. Each hero has different skill types, and is played a different way. Teamwork is the key to winning any dota game. Creator: Eul Past Editors: Kegsta, Sesshoumaru, Kaye-, and Quantum.dx Current Editors: Ryude, sixbrownsnakes2, and Danite. Classic DotA Maps and affiliates Dota 3.7 Dota 3.7b Dota AT 1.1 Fight Club Multimode 4.1 (beta 2) Dota 4.1b These are the most commonly asked for versions. Will post up active links for others if requested. Q: All those versions of DOTA are great, but what about this "All Star" map I keep seeing on TFT? DOTA Allstars is currently the most popular form of DOTA on The Frozen Throne and was created by Guinsoo as a spinoff of DOTA that came from Eul's original creation, but now a few editors, most notably IceFrog, have turned into a very enjoyable and high-quality map. Some of the classic Dota players here at TWC also play and enjoy Allstars. If you would like to post on the official Allstars forums, they have their own forums here, but if you'd like to discuss Allstars on this forum, you can either post a topic, specifying that it is for Dota Allstars, about something specific or post in our general Allstar thread Allstars thread. Allstars will be discussed in-depth later in this Encyclopedia. 4. Game Mechanics Q: What is tower skipping? Tower skipping is generally regarded by the DOTA public as bad mannered and cheating although it is not directly prohibited by the map programming. While the exact set of tower skipping rules is not defined the same by everyone, generally they are as follows. The destruction of any three towers in a row that have a natural path is not tower skipping. Once these towers are down all buildings in the game may be attacked. It is also permitted to hit more than one building at the same time with spells that can do so, however the tower must be hit first unless you have already cleared three in a natural path. And since verbally it can be confusing, here are all the permissible ways to siege without tower skipping (thanks to m(i)cro for the picture): (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/ryanvergel/path.jpg) Q: What is a server split? A: It is when one group of the players sees the other players leave, and vice-versa. In actuality though, nobody leaves. This is often characterized by massive messages saying players have left at the same time. Whenever I am the victim of server split I see a screen that says everyone else is lagging before I split. To see the causes of the server split, check here. Q: What item stats carry over to images of my hero such as the Phantom Lancer’s Ultimate? Do stat boosting items, gloves of haste or damage boosting items carry over? A: Generally, armor and pure damage does not (such as crystalline sword) but attack speed, run speed, and stats do. Unfortunately, some versions are slightly different. Q: How does the Demon Magess' Mind Ravel Work? A: Mind Ravel is based on Fountain of Mana, which is reversed to drain mana instead of restore it. The spell will not work while an NE hero has full mana. The amount of mana drained is .33%/.66%/1% per second. So, an NE hero with 100 mp within the radius of a Demon Magess with level 3 Mind Ravel will have 1 mana drained per second. Q: How does evasion work with bladeturn necklaces? A: There has been a lot of confusion with evasion, bladeturn necklaces, and stacking. As was proven by a group of TWC forum members in individual tests, evasion and blade turn necklaces do not stack. View the full thread here. Q: My spell says it does 200 damage, but that guy had 190 and still lived! What gives? A: Hero Resistance affects Spell damage when you cast it on a hero, which means that it is reduced by 25%. So a 100 damage spell will do only 75 damage to a Hero. Spells do the full damage that it says on normal units. Q: What spells are unaffected by spell resistance/anti-magic? A: Astral Protection, Death Sentry, and Diabolic Edict pass through spell immunity. {This is because they are not pure magic. They are all summons.} Plague Spear and epidemic are also immune to the Omniknight’s anti-magic shell. {Both physical abilities} Flask of Sapphire Water{ty Danite for correcting this} is dispellable in 3.6, TE, FC, Multimode and Rumble, but is undispellable for most others. Magic Immunity does not protect against the enemy buffing his attack with critical strike, inner fire, call of the wild, battle cry, rampage, etc. Hero spell damage reduction is not applied for Touch of Death and Decompose, because they are based of 'friendly' buffs. Also, Holy Light, Death Coil, and Bone Spirit are hard coded to pass through an allies' magic immunity to heal them. All auras work through magic immunity. {Drain Life's ability to pass through magic immunity was removed in patch 1.18.} Q: How do Curse and Evasion work? A: You can find the answer to this question on http://www.thewarcenter.com/forums/index.p...pic=23431&st=90. To explain it in short here, first a dice is rolled to check if the attacking unit misses. If it lands, then a dice is rolled to check if the attacked unit evades the attack. So, the dice for curse is rolled first, then evasion if it passes. NOTE: AMS does not allow buffing of self-buffs (I doubt this for Critical Strike and Herculean Strength though) in TE. Also, remember that Flask of Sapphire Water is indeed dispellable in TE because of the lowered cost. (Makes MS tank furbolg shamans easier) 10. Dota Survival Q: What is Dota Survival? A: Dota Survival is a map created by Cyanide that is a survival map with heroes based off the DotA ones. You can find the latest version, 1.5, here. Q: How is Dota Survival different from the usual DotA? A: Other than that it is a survival game instead of an AoS (Aeon of Strife) game, there are also other changes. Here's a changelist provided by Cyanide. Latest non-classified changes: Blue Dragon Whelps now deal Piercing damage from Normal. Started as a spin-off by Meian and then Guinsoo, it has expanded into a Blizzard acclaimed map through the work of various editors including Guinsoo, Terrorblaze, Neichus, and IceFrog. The current version of the map is 6.32b with a supposed new version approaching. The map features 77 heroes (one more on Scourge than on Sentinel) including heroes from Classic Dota. The Troll Warlord is practically the same hero, in addition to the Juggernaught and the Crystal Maiden (formerly Frost Maiden) being very similar. Other remakes of Classic Dota heroes in Allstars are the Necrolyte, Earthshaker, Stealth Assassin, Bone Fletcher, Venomancer, Mageslayer, Omniknight, and Tormented Soul. Today Allstars is popular on all scopes of gaming levels, starting at public games where it is huge and the main reason of Wc3Banlist’s creation. Clan TDA, the clan that handles Allstar operations, has a gaming system for the next skill level up in which higher gameplay is expected, leavers are banned, and an icon or safelisting is required. On higher levels, an Inhouse League exists in which the top players from the top clans play in, with special rules and guidelines aimed for higher level games. Finally, at the top, tournaments and leagues exist, the biggest league being CAL, or Cyberathlete Amateur League. CAL DotA currently has two divisions, Main and Open. Currently we are on CAL: DotA season 2. Main consists of all the teams from last season that were shown to be reliable, while Open consists of new teams. Along with CAL comes big players and their respective big clans, and many sponsorships. Some of these clans (all of the following are sponsored) are JMC (winners of last season under name Apex), coL (last season’s runner-up), tPD, FuSe, and vrG. The skill level and teamwork using Allstar heroes in CAL are on par with Classic Dota tournament play. Q: I had experience with other AoS type games, including Classic, but I struggle at Allstars! Everything is just too fast! A: Don’t worry. A little play in pubs makes all the difference. New players (although some older players do this and it is a “noob” thing to do for them) often get a lone Boots of Speed at start to make up for how fast everything is in Allstars. Taking the same approach, however, one could argue that you would need regen to heal the mistakes that you make. A good approach for new players (particularly as melee heroes) is to get a Boots of Speed at start and then try to get a Ring of Health, an item that heals 4 health per second. Q: I found this hero that I like, and I do much better with him than any other hero. All the players whine and call me noob! What gives?! A: In Allstars, all heroes are not created equal. Although most are similar in strength, some are much easier to use to great extents than others. Heroes like Naix (in pubs only!) Clinkz, Lich, Techies, Stealth Assassin, Prophet, and sometimes new heroes or heroes like Tiny (melee heroes with stun and spell damage power, although Tiny is the most noticeable of these types of heroes) are much easier to perform at a high level than many other heroes. The king hero of these is Clinkz, and the “cheapest” hero in Allstars is probably Techies and at higher levels of play, Lich. Q: I just started, and sometimes I have no idea what happens out there. I just die sometimes in seconds and I just feel so confused. What should I do? A: One of the hardest things about starting at Allstars is that because there are so many heroes and because of the power of their moves, sometimes you just don’t know what hit you. When facing heroes like Terrorblade, Lich, Techies, The Butcher, Lina/Lion, Rhasta sometimes you just don’t know what happened. The solution is to play lots of –AR games, possibly –AR –DM if you feel comfortable. That way you will get to play as more heroes and see a larger scope of heroes that your allies use (public players often only pick from a small scope of heroes) Best way to learn is in this case, by experience. He's been here like 2 weeks ago, spammed some topics and left...I say we update the encyclopedia...now who is gonna do it? Last time I tried I got confused with all the letter codes that I gave up, stopped posting (due to environment) but now I'm back, I dont mind doing it, but it's end of the year and I'm bussy, gives other ppl the opportunity to do it now, or let me do it (perhaps) in like 2 months time...

Perhaps we should update it after DH2 and 4.0 come out. I hope we can play them sometime in the middle of June.

Nice thinking guys. After all the stuff is released, I would be glad to update it.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ninja.gif) We're bussy already...its gonna be more complete than ever, but it may take some time, we plan on introducing some new features, such as dividing the encyclopedia chapters over different posts, so that navigating will be easier (iow you can move to a specific post/chapter) also we want the stats, spell costs/effects etc posted at the beginning of every hero guide, furthermore we will be making new hero guides, in which we will include the valueable ideas posted in the old ones (though who is gonna decide what is valuable and what not, is not quite clear yet) We plan om making some things in table style, so they are easier to use and find. (eg abbreviation list (which will increase in size), item list) Dunno what we're gonna do else...perhaps aRH+ has some idea's...feel free to post any idea's you have here, this thread will not be visible in a couple of months and we will consider stuff you say... |

4.0 will be a big one with 8 new heroes and twenty-ish items. So it will take a huge effort to put all those heroes together. But it is not a hard task at all. Just takes some time.

Updated a bunch. If anyone typos are there or if you feel I need to add anything, please tell me.
In addition, if anyone knows if updates need to be done to the clanlist (example being Clan blah doesn't exist anymore so remove it, and Clan men is a new clan so put it up) I would love to know. |

I was trying to point out that the "TFT" should not be there. Thanks for adding the "Beta" though.
